SCIENCE ISLAND KAUNAS INTERNATIONAL DESIGN CONTEST
2016
The Nemunas island of Kaunas represents the city's green heart, which is why the main focus was to keep its recreational and leisure character while connecting the new Science Centre to the city. The building blends into the surroundings, offering visual connectivity with the city center from its walkable green rooftop. The Science and Innovation Centre is located between the new pedestrian bridge that links the city to the future convention center and the existing pedestrian bridge. Its connection to the Žalgiris Arena and parking spaces is made through a straight path along which diverse sculptural installations will be positioned to announce the Science Centre. The entrance to the new center will be marked through a new square for diverse outdoor activities. The new center is integrated into the site through the presence of the water strongly felt inside and on the outside of the building.
